PROCESS

Ten transgender people were invited by the artist to talk about their stories. With the help of question cards, the interviewees were encouraged to talk about moments, memories and thoughts, which randomly mixed questions about gender identity, childhood memories, desires for the future and everyday life issues. In a playful and organic way, each participant revealed a little about their processes of (dis)identification with the male/female genders, as well as the unfolding of their trajectories as trans people in today's Brazilian society.

The conversations were conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic, during which the team and interviewees took all recommended safety and security measures. For this reason, most of the recordings took place at the artist's own home. This brief collection of sensitive narratives was the basis for developing the exhibition. By using the voices of trans people to communicate about transgenderism, the aim is to give visibility to the plural ways of identifying as a trans person and the different ways of managing this dissident, erased and persecuted identity in Brazil. about the shared stories. It is a way of literally giving voice to the works and allowing viewers to hear them and be affected by them.

After the conversations, the artist studied the recorded audios in an exercise of empathetic listening and reflection. He then began creating the exhibition pieces, abstract drawings, using mixed media techniques on coated paper. The works reflect the artist's impressions and feelings about each person, individually. The narratives transcend the artistic creation, where each color, line and texture adds a new layer of meaning and sensation. The entire creative process was recorded.

Artists and sound and image designers then came together to create audiovisual works that combine the voices of the muses with the images created from their stories. These short films enhance the aesthetic and poetic experience of the exhibition by highlighting all the people involved in the creation: artists, muses and designers. The result is an audiovisual experience in which the drawings create visual layers over the shared stories. It is a way of literally giving voice to the works and allowing viewers to hear them and be affected by them.
